One run. Just one run separated the Miami Hurricanes from a long-awaited return to Omaha. After a hard-fought Super Regional battle, the Canes fell 3-2 to Louisville in Game 3, ending a postseason run that reminded everyone what this program is made of.
This one stings. And it should. Miami held a 2-0 lead after Max Galvin’s blast in the third inning sent a jolt of hope through Hurricane Nation. But as quickly as the momentum built, it began to slip. A routine double play that didn’t quite get turned in the fourth let the Cardinals tie things up. Then came the sixth and seventh innings that will haunt this roster all offseason. A bases-loaded opportunity in the sixth evaporated on a double play. And in the seventh, a wild pitch and a gutsy swing from Louisville’s Eddie King Jr. gave the home team a lead they never surrendered.
Miami had its chances late. Daniel Cuvet doubled in the eighth. Two walks in the ninth set up a potential miracle. But some borderline strike calls and a final fly out sealed the Canes’ fate.
Still, it would be a disservice to this team to let a one-run loss define their season. This was a Miami squad that navigated a tough regular season, earned a No. 3 seed in the Hattiesburg Regional, and upset Alabama and Columbia before gutting out a winner-take-all game against Southern Miss. That kind of fight doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the sign of a program growing under a head coach who knows what it means to wear the orange and green.
In just his second year at the helm, J.D. Arteaga has led Miami to the Super Regionals for the first time since 2016. Arteaga, a Hurricane lifer who served as an assistant for two decades before taking the reins, has already shown he can lead. This team, under his leadership, was just one win away from Omaha. With the talent returning and the culture clearly taking root, there’s every reason to believe the next step is coming soon.
This wasn’t the ending anyone wanted. But it was a season worth celebrating. A team worth believing in. And a future worth investing in. The Hurricanes are rising again and next year, don’t be surprised if they finish what they started.
