After securing their series win Saturday night with its first shutout of the season, the 22nd ranked Miami Hurricanes baseball team would put on a firework show on Sunday afternoon.

The Hurricanes recorded their seventh multiple home run performance of the season after dominantly taking down Dartmouth University by a score of 20-2 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. The largest margin of victory for the Hurricanes this season.

“It’s a good way to finish the series and complete the sweep, which is never easy in college baseball,” head coach Gino DiMare said. “Offensively, we put up big runs and the home runs seem to be the talk of our team…We hit a lot of balls hard. Our outs were hard…Hitting is a confidence thing and a contagious thing too, so it’s a good thing to have right now as we move forward.”

Junior Dominic Pitelli, sophomore Dorian Gonzalez Jr. and freshman Jason Torres all notched homers to their individual stat sheets for the Hurricanes. Torres smacking one out of the park for his first time as a ‘Cane, Gonzalez with his second in a two-day span.

The University of Miami baseball team has recorded 22 total home runs throughout their first eight games this season. That mark being one of the best overall totals by a collegiate team during the early stretch of this 2023 season.

Twelve different Hurricanes players registered hits on the diamond during Sunday’s victory. Most notably, Dominic Pitelli, freshman Blake Cyr and LifeWallet athlete / junior Yohandy Morales all recorded three hits, individually.

Over the entirety of the three-game home series, the Hurricanes would crush seven home runs and outscored Dartmouth by an outstanding output of 35-9.

Junior right-handed pitcher Alejandro Rosario played a big part in Sunday’s win, throwing over a span of six innings. Rosario would limit Dartmouth to just three hits, in addition to striking out seven batters.

“Alejandro had a spurt where he struggled a little bit, but he bounced back from that and was able to get through six innings, which is what we want,” head coach Gino DiMare said. “We want our starters to go deeper into the game. If they can get through six or seven, we’ve got a chance to be really successful. He did a good job and then the other guys that came in off the bench did an excellent job.”

The Hurricanes will travel out on the road for their very first time this 2023 season but not too far. Miami will travel to Boca Raton to face Florida Atlantic University on Tuesday evening. First pitch is set for 6:30 P.M. EST and the game will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
