Andrew Walters Named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List

LifeWallet athlete and University of Miami baseball closer Andrew Walters was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch list on February 16th.

The watch list sports 81 of baseball’s top relief pitchers. Relievers who are not on the preseason watch list still have an opportunity to be tabbed a finalist for the award throughout the year pending their season performances.

He was one of 10 finalists for the prestigious award in 2022, when Walters recorded an ACC-leading 14 saves, those 14 saves ranked fifth in the nation and 10th all-time in a single season at the University of Miami. The right-handed pitcher posted a 1.65 ERA and held all opposing hitters to a .116 average.

Walters produced 62 strikeouts and six walks over the duration of 32.2 innings, even more impressive than the aforementioned, he began his sophomore season with 22.2 scoreless innings.

He is a consensus preseason All-American and Walters leads all returning Power Five pitchers in WHIP (0.58) and opponent batting average, among arms who had thrown for at least 25 innings at the Division I level during the 2022 season.
