Congratulations to University of Miami and LifeWallet Sports athlete Akeem Mesidor on being awarded the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.
Mesidor is an Ottawa, Ontario native and transferred to the University of Miami last year from West Virginia. The 6-foot-three, 280 pound third-year sophomore defensive lineman had a team-best eight tackles, including a dominating 3.5 sacks against Virginia Tech. The last player to record 3.5 sacks in a game on the road was Hurricane Gregory Rousseau in November of 2019.
Mesidor was key in the defense doing so well against Virginia Tech. As the Hokies attempted to slow down Mesidor, it allowed other defensive linemen and linebackers to get into the backfield. Virginia Tech only rushed for 78 yards on 40 carries.
LifeWallet Sports looks forward to watching Mesidor continue to dominate throughout the season.
