The watch lists continue to grow for Isaiah Wong and Nijel Pack as they are added to the Wooden Award Watch List. The John R. Wooden Preseason Top 50 are selections of players at the division one level who are strong candidates for the 2023 John R. Wooden Award Men’s Player of the Year presented by Wendy’s. The ACC leads all leagues with 10 players as part of the group and Miami is one of only 10 schools with multiple players on the list.
Wong is a Preseason First Team All-ACC player and one of twenty players on the NABC Player of the year watch list. Last year Wong had an incredible year where he averaged 15.3 points per game and was Third Team All ACC for a second year in a row. Currently, Wong has 1299 points and will be the 18th Hurricane to reach 1300 points. Through two games Wong is averaging a team high of 15.5 points per game with 4.5 rebounds and a team best 3.5 assists.
Pack is a 6-foot, 184-pound Junior who transferred to University of Miami from Kansas State. Through two games with the Hurricanes, Pack is averaging 15 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
The national ballot for the award will consist of the 15 top players who prove to their schools they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Voting will open just prior to the NCAA Tournament and nearly 1000 voters will rank the players. The Wooden All-American Team will be announced the week of the Elite Eight Tournament and the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented in Los Angeles sometime in April.
LifeWallet Sports wishes both Wong and Pack the best of luck in becoming the John R. Wooden Men’s Player of the Year.
