#3 Ole Miss vs #6 Vanderbilt

The biggest matchup of the weekend and possibly the biggest matchup in college baseball so far this year will take place in Nashville this week as two SEC baseball powerhouses face off. Third ranked Ole Miss will travel to take on sixth ranked Vanderbilt in the only matchup of top-10 teams this weekend. The SEC seems to be head and shoulders above other conferences in baseball this year with six of the top seven teams in the nation coming from the SEC according to the D1Baseball poll. This makes conference matchups like this weekend’s battle between Ole Miss and Vanderbilt hold even more weight. This series will be the first conference games of the season for both squads and it will be very important to get off to a hot start in what will be a very highly competitive race in the SEC.

#14 Virginia vs #23 NC State

Another big in conference series is taking place in the ACC as #14 Virginia travels to Raleigh to face off against #23 NC State. Virginia is off to a hot start in conference after taking their ACC series opener against the North Carolina Tar Heels. NC State on the other hand, is looking to bounce back after dropping two out of three to the Miami Hurricanes down in Coral Gables last weekend followed by a midweek loss to Elon. Luckily for the Wolfpack, they’ll be returning home where they’re currently 11-1 on the season. This will be a huge series for an NC State team that has hit an early slide to try and get back on track.

#24 Alabama vs #5 Florida

Back in the SEC, the Alabama Crimson Tide will travel to Gainesville to take on a red-hot Florida Gators team. The Tide are 2-2 in their last four games including a series loss at home to Columbia. They’ll be facing a buzzsaw against the Gators who have won seven straight games and are scoring runs in bunches. UF’s offense is averaging eleven runs per game during their seven-game win streak and have a very solid starting pitching staff to pair with their explosive bats. Florida is 15-3 at home and will be looking to set the tone in their first conference series of the season.

#1 LSU vs #15 Texas A&M

Two of the hottest teams in college baseball will be going head to head on the diamond in College Station this weekend. Top ranked LSU looks like the most dominant team in the nation and will be riding an eleven-game winning streak into their series against a Texas A&M team currently on an eight-game winning streak of their own. LSU sits at 16-1, but will be facing by far their toughest task yet as they take on the Aggies in what will be a very hostile environment. LSU’s offense vs the impressive pitching staff of Texas A&M will be the matchup to watch in this huge series. The Tigers have scored nine runs or more in each of their last nine games, while the Aggies pitching staff has held four out of their last five opponents to one run or fewer. This series will be a good early indicator of just how good this LSU team truly is.
