The Hurricanes left no doubt in their in-state clash with South Florida, steamrolling the Bulls 49–12 to remain undefeated and stake their claim as one of the most complete teams in the country. Coming off last year’s 37-point rout of USF, Miami somehow managed to top it, winning this time by 37 points again in a game that was decided early.
Carson Beck orchestrated a near-flawless outing despite two interceptions, finishing 23-of-28 for 342 yards, three touchdown passes, and a rushing score. His efficiency and poise set the tone for an offense that was unstoppable for most of the night. Mark Fletcher Jr. carried the load on the ground, ripping off 120 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 carries. In the passing game, Keelan Marion was steady with 81 yards on six receptions, while true freshman Joshua Moore introduced himself in style with two first-quarter touchdowns.
After a lightning delay briefly paused the action in the second quarter, Miami came out unfazed. Fletcher’s 38-yard touchdown run put the Hurricanes up 21–6, and a Beck bootleg later in the half extended the margin to 28–6 heading into the break. From there, Miami never looked back, turning the second half into a showcase for its depth.
Defensively, Miami was smothering. Though USF’s Chas Nimrod found room for 128 yards on four catches, the Bulls had no ground game whatsoever, held to just 40 yards on 27 carries. Byrum Brown, USF’s dual-threat star, was bottled up with only two rushing yards on 13 attempts. The Hurricanes’ front seven dominated the trenches, and their secondary came up with timely plays, including an interception and a forced fumble.
While this was a statement win for Miami, it may also help their resume down the road. USF, already with ranked wins on the season, could end up as the highest-ranked Group of Five team in the playoff conversation, meaning Miami’s victory will only look better with time. Next up for the Canes: a primetime rivalry clash with the Florida Gators at Hard Rock Stadium.
